I frequently watch Like It Or Not on the Benjamin Dixon Show as they usually have substantive guests. I’m usually listening as I either prepare for interviews or am writing articles and blogs. This particular morning I got capture by a lawyer who was unapologetic about her critique of our criminal justice system and the difficulties navigating our immigration system. I knew I wanted her voice for the Politics Done Right Audience.

Olayemi Olurin is a lawyer/public defender and writer. You can find her at Medium, among other places around the blogosphere.

Ms., Olurin did not mince her words. She was clear that the criminal justice system is a corrupt institution that uses the bodies of predominantly BIPOCs as raw material to produce profits for the prison industrial complex.

Olurin recounted her first-hand account of cases where the purposeful inefficiency of the system was clear. But the system, like a well-oiled extractor, is immutable.

Olurin, as well, is no stranger to the immigration system. As a Bahaman national, she has had her tribulation with the system. But she rises.

Listen to the entire interview. It is well worth it. And her energy is electric.
