Recently Marlon Weems wrote a piece titled “They Don’t Care How Bad This Looks”
Under the guise of conservatism, Manchin has worked against the Build Back Better Agenda, gutting everything from paid family and medical leave to robust climate change legislation. He has consistently worked against the interests of his constituents — and his party. Not only that, Manchin continually makes demonstrably false statements like this doozy from a few months ago:
“I know they have the climate portion in here, and I’m concerned about that,” Manchin said moments after Biden met with Senate Democrats in the Capitol on Wednesday.
“Because if they’re eliminating fossils, and I’m finding out there’s a lot of language in places they’re eliminating fossils, which is very, very disturbing, because if you’re sticking your head in the sand, and saying that fossil (fuel) has to be eliminated in America, and they want to get rid of it, and thinking that’s going to clean up the global climate, it won’t clean it up all. If anything, it would be worse.”
Huh?
And then there is Kyrsten Sinema, who turned the once-revered position of a US Senate seat into a sort of Tim Burtonesque performance art in less than a full term. Sinema exhibits complete disdain, not only for the Arizonans that placed her in the Senate, but also in deigning to tell anybody her actual political positions.
Even more curious, Sinema does everything in her power to demonstrate that she doesn’t want the job most politicians would kill for — from running marathons instead of working, going on European fundraisers, even ruining Ted Lasso (for me at least) with the help of Republican Mitt Romney.
