Tom Nelson speaks
With the Senate’s fragile make-up and the future of the Democratic party held in the balance by the upcoming 2022 midterm elections, we must be interested in connecting with progressive candidates like this one in Wisconsin. He is jumpstarting the critical race for a Republican Senator.
Tom Nelson is a Midwest progressive and one of the rare Wisconsin Democrats to win an election in this battleground state’s rural-Republican regions. He is the author of the book “One Day Stronger: How One Union Local Saved a Mill and Changed an Industry–and What It Means for American Manufacturing.” Most importantly, he will be running to unseat one of the most dangerous anti-democratic Senators in Congress, Ron Johnson.
Set for release March 9, 2021, the book profiles how Nelson, mill workers, and unions successfully fought to keep a Wisconsin paper mill open and use the lessons from that fight as a roadmap for the future of the labor and environmental movement, the U.S. manufacturing industry, and the Democratic Party. Nelson details intersectional policy platforms’ needs in this work, outlining a future Democratic party that supports labor, champions sustainability, and fights against systemic socioeconomic inequality.
