District Attorney Kim Ogg started the interview by detailing her accomplishments. She said she has an inclusive office populated by lawyers from several surrounding schools, unlike her predecessors. She said she is proud of her office’s work throughout her tenure.
Looking to the future, DA Ogg said she envisions a system where crime victims receive timely justice, aiding their healing process. She calls for unified and consolidated labs to expedite evidence processing and increase support staff and social service professionals. She said it’s not just about prosecuting; it’s about healing communities and addressing disparities in support between offenders and victims.
Ogg said one of the reasons for visiting Politics Done Right was to push back on the coverage she received. One must commend her for appearing uncensored to defend her record.
I told the DA that progressives in Harris County had several concerns with her tenure. Some were as follows.
- Though mostly unsuccessfully, she seemed to have a propensity to go after prominent people of color.
- Her affinity for working with Republicans was above and beyond productive bipartisanship.
- Her adoption of Republican talking points, when seen in context with her high-profile investigations/prosecutions on some, seemed like a form of triangulation.
DA Ogg attempted to answer all these concerns. I am not sure if she assuaged any of them. But I appreciated her visiting the program to make her case. We all do better if we communicate with those we agree or disagree with. Please listen to the entire interview for the full context.
