- Tiffany Rachal’s Tragedy: Tiffany Rachal, the mother of Jalen Randall, a 29-year-old man, recounts the events leading to her son’s death on April 27, 2022. Jalen was killed during a police operation in their neighborhood.
- Fatal Police Encounter: While Jalen and his friend were leaving the neighborhood in a car, they were followed by undercover police, including Officer Shane Privette. Privet reportedly stated that Jalen “would not live to leave the neighborhood,” a comment captured on camera.
- Shooting Incident: After a pursuit that ended with a police maneuver, both Jalen and Privette exited their vehicles. As Jalen was getting out, Privette shot him before he could fully comply with commands, hitting him in the neck. Jalen was then handcuffed and dragged across the sidewalk.
- Grand Jury Proceedings and Inaction: The case was brought to a grand jury in July, which initially took no action. Despite evidence and footage, the process faced delays and lack of accountability, particularly towards Officer Privette. Ms. Rachal is disappointed that Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg did not put her effort into the case after what seems like a clear murder-by-cop.
- Continued Fight for Justice: Despite the setbacks, Tiffany Rachal remains committed to seeking justice for her son. She criticizes the failure to indict the responsible officer and emphasizes the importance of continuing the fight for accountability and justice.
