- Guterres Deployed a Bit of Truth Against Israelspeak: On top of its genocidal escapades in the Gaza Strip, the state of Israel is now also having a hissy fit. The tantrum is primarily directed at United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who in recent remarks before the U.N. Security Council in New York, had the audacity to point out the bleeding obvious. “It is important to… recognize the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum,” Guterres said, in reference to the October 7 Hamas operation that Israel sees as justifying the slaughter of more than 7,000 Palestinians in less than three weeks. The Secretary-General continued: “The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation.” Had Guterres wanted to fill in the vacuum a little more, he could have mentioned the past 75 years of ethnic cleansing, dispossession, and massacres suffered by Palestinians at the hands of Israel, which has now added forced starvation to its deadly anti-Palestinian arsenal. - Eight Progressives Vote Against House Israel Resolution That Ignores Palestinian Suffering: Eight members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus on Wednesday voted against a bipartisan House resolution that expresses unconditional support for the Israeli government as it carries out massive war crimes in Gaza—atrocities that aren’t once mentioned in the newly passed measure. The resolution, titled H. Res. 771, passed late Wednesday in a 412 to 10 vote, the House’s first act under newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.). Led by Reps. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), the resolution states that the House “stands with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists” and “stands ready to assist Israel with emergency resupply and other security, diplomatic, and intelligence support.” The Senate unanimously approved a similar resolution last week. - This Is Unacceptable’: 18 Dead, 13 Wounded in Maine Mass Shooting: In yet the latest mass shooting involving a gunman and a military-style assault rifle in the United States, between 15 and 22 people were killed and scores wounded Wednesday night in the city of Lewiston, Maine. At a press conference on Thursday, law enforcement confirmed that 18 people were killed and 13 wounded during the shootings that happened in two separate locations. Local outlets earlier put the death toll between 15 and 20, but law enforcement remained reluctant to confirm a specific number, with the shooter still at large. [More]
- Huge GM profits yet no deal for striking workers It’s time to make the corporatocracy pay, NOW!: GM is proud to tout its record profits but unfortunately, it does not want to share that profit with the workers who made it happen. Strikers will intend to strike more plants. [More]
