The National Director of the Working Families Party, Maurice Mitchell, destroys the myth that centrism, incrementalism, and neoliberalism are not ideologies in his interview at Netroots Nation 2023 (#NN23). And he points out the dangers of that often cauterized belief system.

It is always informative when I interview Maurice Mitchell, the National Director of the Working Families Party (WFP). We concentrated on three topics. Ideological hypocrisy, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and working-class worth,

I started the interview with a tenet I first heard Maurice articulate, which is similar to the argument I made that what many call the center in politics is nothing but a myth. Mitchell correctly pointed out that centrism in its own right is itself an ideology. And it is one that deprives the masses of the progressive policies they continue to support poll after poll. He said until we acknowledge it is an ideology, the debate cannot be had.

One AI, he points out that AI is but the collective knowledge of humanity, and as such, it should not be controlled by venture capitalists. After all, if the technology, like many others, is from the commons, the spoils should be distributed to the commons in some regulated way.

When discussing the working class, we got a bit more expansive. But in short, the pandemic made much very clear. The stockbrokers and those making money on money were irrelevant. America was able to see who really drove our economy, the working class. One hopes that our collective strength is honed to take this country from the useless class.

The interview is well worth watching in its entirety. We recorded it at Netroots Nation 2023 #NN23 in Chicago.
