Dr. Dona Kim Murphey became concerned after every female in her household developed irregular periods. She is exploring whether a recent chemical fire correlates with many area women exhibiting the same symptoms.
Dr. Dona Kim Murphey asks the pertinent question.
On May 5th, 2023, large amounts of dark smoke could be seen billowing from the Shell Deer Park plant for miles in the 5900 block of State Highway 225 in Deer Park. 9 people were hospitalized briefly. Shell Deer Park said the fire started at their chemicals facility in the olefins unit and involved several gas oils.
Dr. Murphey pointed out the carcinogen 1,3-butadiene was released, which could possibly affect women’s reproductive organs. At this point, she is trying to determine correlation and causality by collecting information from women in the surrounding zip codes here. If you have seen a sudden change in your period regularity or other recent effects, Dr. Murphey urges you to fill out the fact-finding information. She said everyone’s privacy will be protected.
