Texas activist and the founder of WorkingGroup512 said a Harris County Texas cop violently assaulted him for a false traffic stop.
Texas cop behaving savagely.
Recently Chivas Watson‘s post on his arrest showed up in my feed. I work with him at the Houston Peace and Justice Center. I called him immediately to learn about the incident. I immediately requested an interview. It is a story that should be exposed, especially when police officers continually abuse POCs.
Chivas wrote the following:
Saturday, I was stopped by Harris County Constable Precinct 4 officer Korey Gilligan-Griffin (named in his badge as Korey Alston) for a traffic violation. Instead of handling the ticket, as one would assume, the officer violently arrested me, tried ramming me into his car, and then used MMA moves to yank my leg and throw me to the ground. The distance between the curb and his car was less than 5 feet so I could’ve broken my back and been paralyzed forever.
In the video, you’ll see that he pressed his knee into my neck and clavicle, aiming to restrict any movement by restricting my breathing. The video is only 25 seconds, but he held his knee to my neck for over 4 minutes.
After roughly 115 minutes of false accusations, threatening behavior, and intimidation of the three (3) female Witnesses that watched and recorded this initial exchange, I was taken around the corner to a gas station, where I was violently molested and choked. After another hour, I was taken to Harris County Jail and charged with Texas Penal Code, Sec. 38.15., Interference with Public Duties — a Class B Misdemeanor.
Harris County Jail is perhaps one of the most dangerous facilities in America, notorious for inmate deaths and officer-initiated violence. I saw it all as the clock turned, and dozens more were brought into booking and holding — beat up during arrests. I have been released on my personal recognizance.
Police officers like Korey have killed #GeorgeFloyd, #EricGarner, #FreddieGray, #PhilandoCastile, and so many others. It’s not only important that they be held criminally responsible for violating their oath of public service but be removed from communities as a public servant altogether. There is no accountability with the Police outside of this.
I’ve got a broken finger, clavicle contusion, pulled hip and groin, muscle spasms in my left back, bruised wrists, and cut fingers. I am alive, nonetheless.
Please listen to the entire interview. It is well worth it.
