The publisher & founder of Tre Magazine, Stephanie Coleman, discussed her venture into publishing with a positive message to encourage others to chase their dreams.
Stephanie Coleman is fulfilling her mission.
It was inspiring speaking to Stephanie Coleman, Founder, and Publisher of Tre Magazine. Her energy is the only catalyst one needs to go out there and fulfill their dreams as they do something positive for society.
I asked Stephanie why she created the magazine. Her all-encompassing answer is that of empowerment in many forms and much more.
“Tre is the definitive voice. That has been our goal,” Stephanie Coleman said. “I moved back to Houston — for those who don’t know necessarily what Third Ward is; it’s a neighborhood, the historic African-American neighborhood within the Houston area — came back and just saw such a disparity in voice. That community had all this bandwidth, all of this capacity, all these amazing stories to tell. But mainstream networks minus, you know, KPFT where we were on had a slant on every good story. It was always totally distorted. And as I talked about, well, what we need to do next and what can we do, someone said, and more importantly, I was saying what why aren’t we doing? And someone said, well, why don’t you do it?”
That made Stephanie realize that we often wait for someone else to do or fix something we can empower ourselves to do.
“So out of that was, more, put your money where your mouth is and put together something that really is as inclusive as I would hope. And so with that, every story is politics, government money, lifestyle, culture. We’ve had writers as young as seven and as old as 82, allowing people who have been with different capacities to connect. We are a microcosm of bigger issues, and if we could deal with it locally, then maybe we can empower individuals to understand that they can make an impact nationally and even globally. So that is kind of a publication at a glance.”
Empowering, wouldn’t you say? Listen to the entire interview. It won’t disappoint.
