The head of Harris County’s governing body, Judge Lina Hidalgo, visited the Kingwood Area Democrats, Humble Area Democrats, and other active Area Democratic groups for our belated 4th of July celebration.
Judge Lina Hidalgo shines at Democratic event
Judge Lina Hidalgo raced down from her commitments at the Texas Legislature in Austin to be with this amalgamation of groups. Many of our incumbent Democratic judges roamed the 150+ attendees for ballot signatures. Grassroots in action is a beautiful thing.
Harris County is blessed with very competent Democratic leaders of every stripe, age, ethnicity, religion, you name it. Most importantly, we are blessed with very active Democratic organizations and issue-specific groups that seed and harvest not only the Democratic base but people of converging values.
Just before the fireworks and the speeches from our incumbents and other politicians running in 2022 and beyond, Lina Hidalgo hit the deck on a high note. She first acknowledged the new Harris County Democratic Party Chair, Odus Evbagharu. Judge Hidalgo then gave a fighting speech on battling for our Democracy. She pointed out the county’s successes, increasing the vote by a large percentage not only for Democrats but for all Harris County voters.
The Judge pointed out that the Republicans in Austin saw Harris County’s success as a threat. Their goal is to make all of the successful voting procedures Harris County instituted illegal. Hidalgo made it clear that the Republicans do not know what they will be up against in 2022. Harris County Democrats like 2018 and 2020 will leave no stone unturned for a win for the residents of our county.
One must note that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton made it clear that absent the voter suppression he instituted back in 2020, Trump would have lost Texas. Democrats will not be surprised. The work to win has already begun. I spoke to several activists that are already giving marching orders for the entire county. It was great talking to them in person as the enthusiasm was palpable.
A shout-out is in order to Jaime Rodriguez and his family for the use of their beautiful home for the event. Likewise, a shout-out to John Cotter, President of Humble Area Democrats, Ellie Porras, President of Kingwood Area Democrats, and Art Pronin, President of Meyerland Area Democrats.
Harris County Democrats are committed to getting Judge Lina Hidalgo an earned second term in 2022. Our competent incumbent politicians that continue to govern and judge by our values will be re-elected as well.
