Jeff Reese is a former cop with a solid message
Jeff Reese visited Politics Done Right to discuss Houston Peace & Justice Center. But like many interviews on our program, we like to move where the interviewee is directing us explicitly or implicitly.
Reese was a former cop. We are well aware of the intersectionality between racism, cops, and killing of people of color indiscriminately. I was impressed that Reese did not shy away from the issue. He was cognizant that there is a problem.
In his acknowledgment and assessment of the problem, he laid out the solution, if not explicitly, from identifying the problem. As president of Houston Peace & Justice Center (HPJC), he has and is working with various organizations whose missions include policing, social justice, economic justice, and criminal justice issues.
Mission Statement:
HPJC serves as an action center for peace and justice efforts. We provide peace education, activism training, and collaborative resources for individuals, families, and organizations throughout the Greater Houston area to build a just, non-violent community.Vision:
HPJC will be central to peace and justice activity in Houston. Its membership includes most of the area’s eligible institutions and organizations.Those institutions and organizations that aren’t members nonetheless will have a good working relationship with HPJC, meaning that they are responsive to its emphasis on collaboration and networking to achieve particular objectives. They will habitually think in such terms, and look to HPJC as the way to enlist broad support for their agendas.
