Laz Ayala, the producer of the documentary “Illegal,” talks about undocumented workers and their plight. He is the founder of Illegal: The Project.
Laz Ayala deconstructs the immigration issue
Illegal The Project is a movement that seeks to shed light on facts and myths about undocumented immigration; humanize the topic, educate, engage, and organize Americans to demand common-sense legislation that addresses the problem’s root: an illegal employment system that lures undocumented immigrants with the prospects of illegal employment. A system that taxes undocumented immigrants without rights, votes, or representation, demonizes and criminalizes them and then exploits them as political pawns.
Ayala appeared on Politics Done Right to discuss the plight of the undocumented. He deconstructed the issue unlike most. His intent is to make sure everyone understands the complicity of American policy.
Ayala also discussed the fires on the West coast. He says thousands of immigrants are suffering from these rampant flames in silence, and they need support.
“Typically, these seasonal workers stay with their families, rent trailers, or stay with groups in trailer parks,” says a Laz, producer of the documentary and book Illegal. “But right now, undocumented folks are afraid to seek out assistance; they fear deportation or being arrested. As the fires forge on, these illegal immigrants are falling through the cracks, living in fear, and not being counted.”
