After Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston, Texas and other parts of the state, I wrote the article titled “Political malpractice kills and should be dealt with accordingly” that was subsequently quoted by Thom Hartmann on his radio show. The idea was if politicians pass policies that knowingly kill people, there should be some penalty greater than failure at the ballot box.
We currently have a murderous healthcare system for the sole purpose of enriching a few. That should be criminal. Today we will talk about Life Expectancy in America. Dr. Anand Bhat, a contributor to Politics Done Right, wrote a prescient article on this subject that will be our Blog of the Week.
But before we get into that, our regular contributor, Tamara Shealey will is back with us discussing a topicRawwsdsdsadsdadasd that I can easily tie to our lousy healthcare system, “Women should be leading the country now that it is clear testosterone has failed.”
Topics:
- Rawstory: Michigan Republicans’ effort to curb Democrats’ power hits a snag. A Republican-backed bill in Michigan that would curb the authority of the incoming Democratic secretary of state appears dead, following weeks of intense criticism from Democrats who called the move a partisan power grab. It was one of a series of steps taken by Republican-dominated state legislatures in Michigan, Wisconsin and North Carolina after Democratic wins in last month’s elections, which Republicans have said are intended to improve transparency and accountability. A committee in Michigan’s Republican-led House of Representatives did not list the legislation on its agenda for Wednesday’s meeting, the final scheduled one of the year, and the committee’s Republican leader told the Detroit News that the bill would not be considered.
- RawStory: Kansas GOPers Dinah Sykes and Stephanie Clayton flip to Democrat because far-right takeover is ‘getting worse’. Two Republican lawmakers in Kansas this week aligned themselves with the Democratic Party. Kansas state Sen. Dinah Sykes and state Rep. Stephanie Clayton both announced on Wednesday that they were leaving the Republican Party, according to The Topeka Capitol-Journal. “I strongly believe elected officials should serve the people they represent,” Sykes said in a statement. “That belief drove me to run for office. I ran for the Kansas Senate to protect the Kansas quality of life and to bring common sense to Topeka. At this time, I feel like I can either fight to change the Republican party or fight for the state I love and the people I serve. I think I can better serve my state and constituents as a member of the Democratic Party.” Clayton said that she made her move to the Democratic Party after Republicans failed to increase school funding. “Recent moves to support chaos in public policy have caused me great concern,” Clayton said. “Johnson County is the economic engine of the state and the fuel for that engine is our education system. I believe that I can better serve my constituents and support education as a member of the Democratic Party.”
