I like very few corporations. But Starbucks is one that I have always had an affinity for because they act more responsibly than most corporations. They pay a living wage when one takes into account the benefits even part-timers receive. Today Starbucks is closing all of their stores to train and discuss how to ensure they are welcoming community they preach they are for everyone.

Some characterize this move as a PR move. At first, I believed that as well. Now I think it is insane to believe that. There are several reasons why I do not thinks it is. We will discuss those in the blog of the week. But further, we will talk about corporations and their civic duty to be good citizens.

EgbertoWillies.com: ABC announced on Tuesday that it would cancel the sitcom “Roseanne” following “abhorrent” comments from the star, Roseanne Barr, who had compared former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett to an ape. “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, said in a statement Tuesday. “There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a tweet following the announcement. Disney is the parent company of ABC.
