Parents and activists in Houston were relentless. They watched many of the board members of the Houston Independent School District (HISD) not only sell them out but treat them with disrespect and disdain as they dispatched the police to forcibly remove them from an open meeting. They forced the police into an act where two Progressive heroes, Kandice Webber, and another woman were arrested. In other words, they could have potentially changed the entire life outcome of one of their constituents. Sensibly, the District Attorney dismissed all charges.

This is not just a Houston issue. This is a national issue. As the plutocracy continues to purchase politicians from school boards to Senators to Presidents, unless we wise up and stay engage as one, they will win and move us continually to indentured servitude to a few. From our children as raw material to pilfer our tax dollars via charter schools to the privatization of water, we must educate ourselves. We must keep our eyes wide open to the scourge that is a sect in the financial sector that sees most of us as commodities.

But today we will discuss charter school with Houston Independent School District Activist Board Member Jolanda Jones. Thus far she has not disappointed us. In fact, she is here. Jolanda does not need introduction in Houston but for our national listeners here we go.

Jolanda Jones is one of  Houstons most well-known former city council member, grassroots political activist, and lawyer. She starred in both the CBS’s Survivor series as well as in the show Sisters in Law. She was recently elected Trustee on the Houston Independent School Board. Jones is fighting the fiscal / taxation battle and much more as it relates to the education of all Houstonians.
