Progressives cannot allow Women’s March or anyone else to pose

Indivisible Houston‘s president Daniel Cohen called me up a few days ago. He was irate that many who label themselves as Progressives were not overtly vocal in condemning the recent anti-Semitic speech given by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. Cohen was specifically upset that the leadership of the Women’s March were “fraternizing” with Farrakhan.
“I have a response that I need to get out,” Cohen said to me.
Soon after I received a very long essay from Cohen where he methodically deconstructed the behavior of the Women’s March National leadership during and after the speech. I made sure to post it.
Many pushed back on the article. I do not know how many who are criticizing the article read it. If they have not, I suggest that they do. It is time that Progressives are just that progressive. And when anyone in our ranks fails, we must call them out and they should apologize. We can all make mistakes or screw up. But to not acknowledge the problem is wrong. And that is what gives the Right fodder to point us out as hypocrites, not confronting it directly. I called out Black ministers who were against our trans and gay friends for being instrumental in killing HERO. That was an evil discriminatory act that they themselves went through or should be aware of all of the times. We must all do that. Cohen researched his piece. If there is anything in error in his article, point it out and once verified he will fix it. What I will not do is allow faux-Progressives using our values to continue the evil of the Plutocracy after they get elected with our help. That is the real reasons we are losing a swath of people who share our values.
Daniel J. Cohen is my guest today. We will discuss this issue and some of the pushback. It is a very important show for progressives.
