This week we talk with Missouri State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal to talk with us about the ongoing demonstrations in Ferguson, MO following the death of Michael Brown and the problem of police brutality against civilians.

Maria Chappelle-Nadal is the elected State Senator for St. Louis County (District 14), Missouri. She is a graduate of Georgia State University with a B.A. dual degree in political science and sociology. She is also a jewelry-maker. Maria previously worked for former Lt. Governor Joe Maxwell as his Communications Director, and served as Missouri’s Senior Advocate and director of Boards & Commissions. She is a member of the several organizations, including the Democratic Minority Caucus, the University City School Board, the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women, and the National Hispanic Council of State Legislators. In 2008, she received the Legislator of the Year Award by the Missouri Association for Social Welfare and the Legal and Human Rights of Immigrants and Refugees Award by the Missouri Immigrant and Refugee Advocates. Before serving in the Missouri Senate, she served three terms in the Missouri House of Representatives.
