With Biden making his pitch to Latino voters in a Miami town hall a few nights ago and again in Arizona on Thursday, a University of Southern California Latino Vote expert says that these appeals aren’t enough.
When Latinos are disproportionately dying of COVID and feeling politically disenfranchised, Manuel thinks Dems have an obligation to this bloc that goes beyond “anti-Trumpism.” Pastor gives a sociologist/economist perspective on Latinos as a non-monolithic group, divides younger vs. older Latinos, and the kitchen table issues that Latinos are prioritizing this election.

Dr. Pastor is a Distinguished Professor of Sociology and American Studies & Ethnicity at the University of Southern California and director of USC’s Program for Environmental and Regional Equity and their Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration. He’s also serving on Governor Newsom’s taskforce for Covid-19 recovery, and wrestling with the racialized implication of economic recovery and impact every day.
